COVID Live Updates: According to the Union health ministry’s dashboard, India had 45,892 new cases of coronavirus illness (Covid-19) on Thursday, with 817 new deaths. With this, the overall number of Covid-19 infections in the country has risen to 3,07,09,557, with a total mortality toll of 405,028.

The number of active cases increased to 46,07,04, or 1.50 per cent of all cases, according to the health ministry, while the total number of recoveries was 29,843,825, with 44,291 persons discharged in the last 24 hours. The prior day’s total number of tests was 19,07,216.

The country’s weekly positivity rate dropped to 2.37 per cent, while the daily positivity rate was 2.42 per cent, less than 3% for the 17th day in a row, according to the health ministry. The testing capacity has been increased, with 42.52 crore tests completed thus far, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, the total number of persons vaccinated against Covid-19 has reached 36,48,47,549, with 33,81,671 inoculated on Wednesday.

As the country’s second wave fades, predictions of the third wave’s arrival in August abound. According to a prediction by the State Bank of India (SBI), the third wave in India could begin in August and peak in September.

On August 7, the country’s infection total surpassed 20 lakh, followed by 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. On September 28, the figure reached 60 lakh, then 70 lakh on October 11, then 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and one million on December 19. On May 4, India passed the two-crore Covid-19 case mark, with three crore cases expected by the end of the year.
