Joe Biden to help rebuild Gaza, insisting a two-state solution

President Joe Biden said on Friday that organising efforts to restore Gaza is the “only response” to the conflict and that the “only solution” is the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Biden also said that he had issued an order to Israelis to end the “inter-communal war” in Jerusalem, which is a hotspot.

“There is no shift in my commitment, commitment to the security of Israel,” he said, adding that “there will be no peace” until the region “unequivocally” recognises Israel’s presence.

The concept of a two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state coexisting with Israel and Jerusalem as their joint capital, has been at the heart of decades of international diplomacy aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Donald Trump’s administration has been chastised for being overtly pro-Israel and dismissing Palestinians.

Jared Kushner, Trump’s strategist and son-in-law, devised a Mideast peace proposal that was billed as a two-state solution. However, the blueprint called for a Palestinian state with minimal autonomy and Israel to retain security control over it.

Palestinian leaders have flatly rejected the proposal.
